Read: Genesis 16:1-16; 21:1-7 (NIV)

Genesis 16:1-16: "Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar; so she said to Abram, 'The Lord has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.' Abram agreed to what Sarai said."

Genesis 21:1-7: "Now the Lord was gracious to Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did for Sarah what he had promised. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him. Abraham gave the name Isaac to the son Sarah bore him."

Meditate: Abraham and Sarah's journey highlights the consequences of impatience and the beauty of God's timing. Initially, Sarah's impatience led to the decision to offer her maidservant Hagar as a surrogate mother, resulting in conflict. But God's promise was fulfilled when Sarah conceived Isaac at an age that seemed impossible. Their story shows us that aligning with God's timing requires patience and trust, even when circumstances seem to indicate otherwise.

Pray: "Dear Lord, as I contemplate Abraham and Sarah's journey, I'm reminded of the challenges of waiting for Your timing. Their story teaches me the importance of patience and trusting Your promises, even when circumstances suggest a different path. Grant me the patience to wait for Your perfect timing in my life. Help me to resist the urge to rush ahead or take matters into my own hands. May I align my desires with Your purpose, even when waiting seems difficult. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen."
